Merriment: Foxy Finery for Your Home

After years running her own interior-design firm at International Market Square, Sarah Olsen has moved her business closer to home. The Woodbury resident recently opened a full retail space and interior-design studio at the Tamarack Hills shopping center to bring her expertise to the often-untapped east metro.

Branded as “foxy finery for your home,” the pieces at Merriment are as spunky as the moniker implies. Olsen has stocked the space with furniture (sofas, coffee tables) set in styled vignettes, covered in bright upholstery and piles of throw pillows. There’s also a sample room filled with fabrics and catalogs so she can collaborate with clients on large-scale decorating projects.

When it comes to refreshing a room, Merriment offers everything necessary for a stylish makeover—from seasonal accessories to perk up a tabletop to the fixtures involved in a major redo that involves tearing down walls. The store is packed not only with rugs and light fixtures but also tabletop décor and the little things (luxe Voluspa candles, sweet pillowcases emblazoned with “Mr.” and “Mrs.” labels, stacks of soft knit blankets) that make a room complete. Racks throughout the shop house handmade greeting cards, apothecary goods from Wisconsin soap maker Y B Urban, and jewelry, some from local designers including Cheryl Rasmussen. It’s a collection of goodies that feels well-curated for a reason: Olsen traveled the country to handpick each item herself, spreading merriment all over the place.
