Nothing says spring like flowers, and what better way to bring in the warm May weather than by celebrating with floral masterpieces?
Sponsored in part by Bachman’s Floral and Gift & Garden Thymes, this is the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s 35th annual Art in Bloom event, and every year the free four-day festival brings thousands of people through its museum doors. This year, there are 165 floral designs that interpret objects from Mia’s collection. On top inspiring creativity in flower and art lovers, the event also helps raise funds to support Mia projects including education and transportation for students, exhibitions, art acquisition, and community programs.
Besides touring through Mia and ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the pretty flower arrangements, Art in Bloom also offers special events and classes throughout the weekend. For adults, Jenn Hovland of Fleur de Louise Flower Studio and Lisa Flynn will host a Make and Take Workshop and show attendees how to embellish fresh flowers with ribbons and vintage finds to create a heart-shaped wreathe. On Saturday morning, families are invited to attend the Art in Bloom Family Event at 10 a.m. where storytellers will tell the classic tale of Imogene’s Antlers, which is about a girl who mysteriously grew a pair of antlers overnight. Kids are able to make wearable antlers at the craft table after using fresh flowers, pipe cleaners, and more.
