This summer, the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is celebrating its 25th anniversary by adding a few unexpected pieces of art—additions that transform an ordinary activity into an extraordinary adventure. Enter Walker on the Green: Artist-Designed Mini Golf: two courses, 16 holes, all designed by architects, artists, and other creative thinkers.
Unlike most mini-golf courses, which leave you waiting for your turn with nothing to do but heckle whoever’s putting, many of the holes here make use of the in-between times.
Our three favorites:

1. Garden Gnome Foosball. This is no ordinary Foosball table. The tabletop has been replaced by a large grassy surface and the faceless plastic strikers have been swapped out for 12-inch-tall gnomes. Game on.
2. Gopher Hole. You know them as the giant funnels at the Minnesota Zoo. But here, instead of watching a coin tornado-twist down, down, down, players must tap their golf ball up a tube that then spirals it into the great unknown (a.k.a. the hole).
3. Player Participation. Your opponents control your fate at this hole as players shift their positions before each turn, trying their best to block the putter’s path to the hole. The best strategy? Make friends with your opponents. Fast.
