More than one million visitors are expected to head to Minneapolis to attend the 2018 Super Bowl. And thanks to two pop-up markets featuring goods by top local makers, out-of-town visitors will be able to take a handcrafted, stylish piece of Minnesota home with them.
Last week, the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee release renderings of its Super Bowl Live center on Nicollet Mall. The public festival, which runs during the ten-day period leading up to the 2018 Super Bowl on February 4 at U.S. Bank Stadium, will include free concerts, national broadcasts, food, activities—and a daily lineup of Minnesota makers selling their handcrafted goods.
The LOCAL Marketplace for Super Bowl Live will feature a lineup of top Minnesota makers. Organizers are mum on further details, which are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Both events are organized by coordinator, Mich Berthiaume, the same woman behind the Mall of America’s annual holiday popup shop showcasing Minnesota makers. The MOA’s Shop Local Market, which opens its doors on November 16, will capitalize on the Super Bowl crowds by extending its stay through Super Bowl week. The MOA Shop Local Market will also be produced in partnership with RAAS Instant Retail, a national pop-up market with a tagline of “reinventing shop ownership by reducing all barriers of entry.”
According to a Facebook post by maker Joanna Buyert of Fringe and Fettle Ceramics, the MOA holiday pop-up lineup includes nearly 20 Minnesota makers, including Fringe and Fettle, Goodrich & Grand jewelry, True Activewear, Pearson’s Candy, Thumbs Cookies, UrbanUndercover, Isadore Nut Company, Mill City Fineries, Northern Glasses, Great Lakes Collection, i like you, Beer Dabbler, Poppy, Sanborn Canoe Co., Pillbox Bat Co., Leather Works Minnesota, Worker B, Nora McInerny’s Still Kickin, and Spinning Wylde cotton candy. The store will be located on the second level of the mall at W262, right outside Nordstrom, and will be open through February 9, 2018. Additional information is yet to be announced.
