The North Loop neighborhood welcomes the new Daytons

Here’s a familiar name that will be welcomed back, I hope, with open arms: Dayton.

Brothers Eric and Andrew Dayton have opened Askov Finlayson, and it looks great. (It’s as if retailing runs in their DNA, or something.)

Exposed-brick walls frame hipster, exclusive brands. Fjallraven backpacks make a pleasing grid behind the register, and the shop is ringed with Happy Socks and Momotaro denim. There are also great pieces by Norse Projects and Wm. J. Mills & Co.

Peppered among the J. Crew-meets-Helvetica-loving-lumberjack style are throw pillows, dopp kits, and, inexplicably (but wonderfully) toy pianos. Perhaps my favorite pieces, though, were belts by Smathers & Branson, which feature hand-embroidered silhouettes of Minnesota. They’re for the modern man, who must have a sense of humor to go with his style.
