Join five local artists, guest curator Maia Maiden, and filmmaker Sherine Onukwuwe for an exploration of the Minnesota hip-hop scene—of “freestyle, hook, and repeat drive innovation across art forms.” The film shot at the Walker Art Center showcases DJing, graffiti, dance, and more in assessing hip-hop globally.

Sound Like Trapped Thunder

What: Magers & Quinn Reading: Sound Like Trapped Thunder

Join Minnesota-based essayist Jessica Lind Peterson’s virtual reading of her compilation of essays, with topics ranging from seahorse mating rituals to a story about a wounded hummingbird and others about the dynamics of the wilderness. Magers & Quinn will stream the reading on Facebook and YouTube.

Classical Smorgasbord

What: St. Paul Chamber Orchestra: Bach, Cuong, Frank and Mozart
When: May 8, 8 p.m.

Get played into a daze by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra’s production of Bach’s classic Brandenburg Concerto No. 3. Then comes the world premiere of composer Viet Cuong, along with a piece by Gabriela Lena Frank—all rounded out with Mozart’s Divertimento in B-flat.
