Since 2001, Spot Spa owner Nell Rueckl has been leading the charge for natural spa services in the Twin Cities—and in 2014, she even launched her own skincare line, Nell’s Remedies. With the recent opening of Spot Spa’s new storefront, situated downstairs from its Lake Street location, Rueckl is expanding into natural nail care.
The salon couldn’t come at a better time—the nail industry has come under scrutiny for its use of harsh chemicals, lax standards for disinfecting equipment, and skin-damaging UV lamps that are used to dry nails (in addition to its mistreatment of workers in some areas). Spot Spa’s manicure and pedicure services are designed to be safer and gentler alternatives. Services include Nell’s Remedies’ herbal soak and scrub for the hands and feet, which feature a hydrating, skin-soothing mix of organic ingredients, followed by a hot towel and moisturizing body butter treatment.
