North Loop Designer Clothing Retailer Arrow Closes

Women’s and men’s designer clothing boutique Arrow quietly closed last week, four years after opening. The North Loop shop, located in the onetime storefront of MartinPatrick3, was opened in early 2012 by Sarah Dwyer and Michael Basham, two former associates of the long-celebrated, now-shuttered Uptown shop Intoto. The news of the closing came via a short announcement on the retailer’s Instagram account a week ago thanking its customers.

In an era of the North Loop’s seemingly never-ending retail boom, the closing comes as somewhat of a surprise. Similar to Intoto, Arrow specialized in hard-to-find designer labels with cult followings, such as L’Agence, Rachel Comey, Mother Denim, MSGM, and Steven Alan for women and Paul Smith, Rogan, Common Projects, and Relwen for men.

When reached for comment via email, Dwyer kept it pretty matter-of-fact: “Our lease was up, our rent was going to increase and after some thought, we decided it would be a good time to take a break and do something different,” she says. “I haven’t decided exactly what I’m going to do, but have a couple ideas simmering. Just enjoying a little time off right now.” Here’s hoping this isn’t the last we hear from Dwyer and Basham.
