Looking to make a splash with a one-of-a-kind statement piece for your home? Check out Chairs with Flair and furnish for a good cause. Bridging, the largest furniture bank in the country, is calling upon Minnesota artists and designers to team up with them and create unique pieces to be auctioned off at the September event: Bridging supplies the furniture, the artists work their magic.
Founded in 1987, Bridging was created to supply families emerging from poverty and homelessness with all of the goods needed to create a home, from blenders to bedding. The furniture bank collects gently-used goods from those who are downsizing or simply have more than they need, using the pieces to provide families with a fresh start.
Bridging created the Chairs With Flair event after drawing inspiration from the Washington state-based NW Furniture Bank’s annual Chair Affair, and is putting its own twist on the concept by allowing artists to refinish whichever of the designated pieces inspires them, from bookshelves to end tables.
Local artists and talented DIY-ers are welcome to stop by Bridging to pick up a piece to refurbish; bringing photos of previous work is encouraged. Transformed pieces can be dropped off again before August 19 and will be auctioned off at a cocktail reception on September 18 at the Ford Center in Minneapolis’s North Loop, with proceeds going to support individuals and families in need.
