Hello, dahlings. I have a confession to make: I am totally in the throes of trying to have a thrifty holiday season, but there are so many great sales and goods out there right now that my wallet is burning a hole in my purse. I feel as though if I share them with you; maybe it will ease some of my urge to utterly clear each shop out of every sparkly thing on the shelves. So here we go:
Greed Gone Wild/Paris Flea Market
The cult fave, Greed Gone Wild with Gwen Leeds & Co., is on, starting at 5 p.m. today and running through December 11. This year it’s in a new location and is sharing space with the Paris Flea Market. Expect tons of great finds from stylists and vendors—everything from vintage and designer clothing and jewelry to record albums and buttons. Find ’em at 4416 Excelsior Blvd., St. Louis Park, which is a half-block east of Trader Joe’s, next to Guild.
Details Holiday Open House
If you’re looking to catch up on the latest winter trends in hair and makeup, and needing a little seasonal pick-me-up, head over to Details Salon in St. Paul for the Holiday Open House event. Here’s whatcha get: wine and appetizers, $10 Express Brow Waxes, and mini-spa services, including makeup touchups and Microzone hand treatments. There’ll be demonstrations aplenty with hair and makeup trends. And here’s the best part: Founder Brian Horst is always doing something to benefit the community around him, so bring in four items for the Emergency Network Foodshelf and receive 20% off all products, including menswear. If you’re among the first 100 to make a $30 donation to Bridges to Safety—a St. Paul domestic abuse center— you’ll snap up a coupon book, good from January through April. There’s also swag and drawings. Extra bonus: Parking is validated in the Lawson Ramp! 5-7 p.m., 346 St. Peter St., St. Paul, 651-251-8700
Ongoing: Corset Sale
You may have already heard that Corset Boutique in Hopkins is being sold. They’re looking for a new owner? Are you that person? But besides that, expect killer deals: 50 to 75 percent off storewide, plus bonus deals atop that. People, it doesn’t get much better than that. Hop on over, but make sure to call ahead if you want to take advantage of a free half-hour styling session! 715 Mainstreet, 952-224-2495
Mighty Swell, Take Two
Last, but most certainly not least, is the Mighty Swell Vintage Pop-Up sale, taking place this Saturday and Sunday at Tarnish & Gold in Northeast Minneapolis. The second take on the wildly successful first venture, founders Meghan McAndrews and Rae Alexis Danneman have recruited more vendors, more clothes, more housewares…at real thrifty prices. I’m considering going to this sale as my birthday present to myself. Dec. 11, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Dec. 12, Noon-5 p.m. 1511 Marshall St. NE, Mpls.
