For the last week, I’ve been cheating on my shampoo. With a cleansing conditioner. I had read about WEN, a newish line of hair care products that’s all the rage with celebrities, but that wasn’t enough. After all, shampoo is serious business. When you find one that works (in my case, Aveda’s Rosemary Mint), it’s life altering. I mean, to know that every day is going to be a good hair day? That’s love. What intrigued me about WEN is that it cleanses without super-drying detergents or sodium laurel sulfate. Translation: no lather. While I, like most people, find bubbles supremely satisfying, the promise of uber-healthy hair won out.
I first tried WEN Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner (for fine to medium hair) on the day I try all new products and beauty techniques: Saturday. This tactic has saved me from exposing smoky-turned-raccoon eyes, the “tousled” look gone wrong, etc. Although the experience of massaging a handful of what felt and looked like creme rinse into my entire head of hair felt unnatural and slightly unnerving, a blow dry revealed something only my darling hairstylist has ever accomplished: a silky, bouncy, manageable mane. Even my bangs, which have a mind of their own, fell perfectly into place. This look lasted the entire day, with no additional brushing, smoothing, or spraying required. Miracle? No, WEN.
