Three plays, four actors—wait, what? This year’s Fresh Ink Series features two one-person shows and a two-person musical. Celebrating 26 years, Illusion Theater’s Fresh Ink returns to the Cowles Center as one of the most unique festivals around. A different play will take the stage each weekend.
What makes Fresh Ink one-of-a-kind?
It’s a steal. The three-play package runs at $39. That comes out to only $13 per play. For those with conflicting travel plans, individual and two-play options are also available.
Both the artists and audience benefit. Viewers get insight into the creative process as artists test their works-in-progress on a live audience. Many full-length productions have evolved from Fresh Ink plays.
Leslye Orr. The legally blind writer and performer comically documents her life in her one-woman show, What I Thought I Saw: Random Acts of Blindness! The tales of mishaps and a can-do attitude add to the charm of the production, exposing a unique perspective.
Will & Grace. Attention fans of the hit TV show—Fruit Fly: The Musical is arguably funnier than the sitcom based on a heartwarming friendship between a gay man and a straight woman.
Fifth-grade English class. Jeffery Hatcher was destined for greatness at age 10 when he adapted and produced Shakespeare’s classic drama, Hamlet. For those with less-than fond memories of reading Shakespeare in high school, fear not—Jeffrey Hatcher’s Hamlet documents fifth-grade Hatcher’s first encounters with the stage.
