North Local Market: Local makers take advantage of the influx of out-of-towners coming to Minneapolis for the Super Bowl with the North Local Market, which pops up at City Center for two weeks leading up to the big game. The Smile Network’s Inspire: Pop-up: Also at City Center, Minneapolis-based nonprofit Smile Network international is opening a 7,000-square-foot space on the skyway level. Similar to its Inspire: Global Gifts for Urban Adventures gift shop at its Loring Park headquarters, the store will sell a selection of fair-trade goods by female artisans, which is sourced from places such as South Africa, Central and South America, Mexico, and India, plus handmade goods from Minnesota brands and makers, including North Loop wellness center and gift shop JeromeoDenise Houser Design women’s apparel, House of Talents‘ fair-trade baskets from Ghana; nature photographer Natasha D’SchommerWakami fair-trade jewelry, and Julia Knight Collection‘s colorful decor. Proceeds help provide cleft-lip and -palate reconstructive surgery to children in developing countries.
