Youth Performance Company (YPC) isn’t so youthful anymore: the nonprofit theater company turns 25 this fall. To celebrate, we bring you five things you likely didn’t know about the company that has launched countless careers.
James Earl Jones left the company a voicemail praising its production of Freedom Riders in 1995.
The company’s “PG-13” series of educational films on teen health has been used by schools all over the world, as far away as India.
Many well-known actors have appeared on stage, including Josh Hartnett (Tom Sawyer, 1993), comedian Nick Swardson (Pecos Bill & other Tall Tales, 1995), and Tony-nominated actress Laura Osnes (Narnia, 1998).
Of the 110 shows YPC has presented, 48 have been original productions.
Four YPC alumni were simultaneously starring in shows on Broadway in the summer of 2011: Laura Osnes in Bonnie and Clyde, Seth Numrich and Stephen Anthony in War Horse, and Paris Remillard in Hair.
