The Wild West Takes Over St. Paul for One Night Only

Live Action Set’s The 7-Shot Symphony is like the best improv show you’ve ever seen, only with a script. It’s highly physical, random yet cohesive, funny, touching, supremely imaginative, and set to the live bluegrass jams of Tree Party (Joey Ford, Jenna Wyse, Travis Bolton, Andy Carroll, and Derek Trost). The energy put forth on stage is so intense, you feel as if you’ve interrupted the most productive brainstorming session ever; creativity pours into the audience, infusing you with the actors’ enthusiasm.

Seven actors—Mark Benzel, Joey Ford, Damian Johnson, Emily King, Matt Riggs, Dustin Suggs, and Jenna Wyse—play more than 47 characters throughout the show, remaining on stage the entire time and using minimal props. Their bodies are their props: curved backs become mountains, fingers become guns, changes in tone and expression become the masks of new characters. And such characters! Hades, Orpheus, Anansi, Odin—except now they’re in the Old West. That’s right, 7-Shot Symphony combines seven classic myths from around the globe and throws them together into the Wild West.

Don’t try to make sense of it, or even try to get an idea of what to expect. All you need to know before heading to The O’Shaughnessy Friday night is this: the show you’re about to see is completely original, highly entertaining, and the winner of the 2011 Ivey Award for “Best Overall Performance.” These actors know what they’re doing, and are ready to give you the showdown of a lifetime. Enjoy it.
