After moving into her downtown Minneapolis loft in 2012, Brianne Boettner created a coffee table out of a railroad cart she picked up at a junk sale to match the space’s minimal, industrial look. That moment inspired her to found Timber & Tulip, a new modern furniture brand that pairs rich wood pieces with sleek, angular metal accents. Timber & Tulip’s modular coffee tables, credenzas, side tables, and nightstands combine the classic look of mid-century modern design with futuristic elements, such as geometric steel frames and “floating” tabletops that appear to be suspended in mid-air. Unexpected materials, including tropical monkeypod wood and Honduras mahogany, add to the furniture’s unique look. And because each piece is built by order by local craftsmen, Boettner is able to offer each design in a wide range of wood species, metal finishes, and dimensions, ensuring every Timber & Tulip piece is truly one of a kind. • timberandtulip.com
