I received this bittersweet news over the weekend: Letterbox, one of my absolute favorite shops for paper and gifts, is closing. Its gracious, witty, and endlessly creative owners, Kimberley and Zach, chose not to renew their Uptown lease. I can live with this decision only because they are moving back to New York City, a place they love and once lived.
I shared the couple’s story, and their love of all things paper, in our January issue. They are the sort of shopkeepers that make local retail so satisfying and fun (hello! cupcake Saturday?). I wish them all the best on their next adventure, and look forward to seeing how they shake up the NYC shopping scene.
For those of us in the mini-apple, there’s still time to experience the joy of Letterbox. From now until the store closes later this month, everything is 50 percent off. That includes handmade cards, designer stationery, home decor, and the small collection of poetry books that Zach loves to discuss. For details and special sale hours, visit letterboxcreative.com.
