It looks like the Mall of America’s long-anticipated north wing is finally filling out: Do-gooding shoe and accessories brand TOMS has announced it will be opening its first Minnesota store at the MOA as part of the expansion. In addition to footwear, the store will carry the brand’s eyewear, handbags, backpacks, and coffee products. The 2,000-square-foot store–its seventh in the U.S.–will open across from the two-level, 30,000-square-foot Zara flagship and near a 10,000-square-foot Anthropologie store, all of which are slated to open in time for the holidays.
Founded in 2006, TOMS is best known for its iconic canvas slip-on shoes and for its one-for-one policy, in which the company matches every shoe purchase with a donation to a child in need. In 2011, TOMS eyewear was added under a similar model–providing prescription glasses, medical treatment, or sight-saving surgery with each eyewear purchase. In 2014, TOMS expanded into coffee roasting, sales of which provides safe drinking water to six countries. Most recently, it launched a line of handbags and backpacks, purchases of which help support safe birthing practices and aid bullying prevention programs, respectively.
The north wing expansion’s current offerings include a Kiehl’s store, a JW Marriott hotel and its Cedar + Stone Urban Table restaurant, and Culinary on North, a new third-level dining wing that includes Shake Shack, Piada Italian Street Food, Disco Fries, and Melt Shop. Elsewhere in the mall, recent additions include locally owned women’s clothing retailer Mona Williams (now open) and Italian luxury brand Versace 19.69 (coming this holiday season).
