Tribal Rugs Come to St. Louis Park

The Navab Brothers Oriental Rug Company shows off a rare collection.

When you’re on the hunt for a truly great rug, there’s just a handful of Twin Cities shops to check out—and the Navab Brothers Oriental Rug Company is one of them. Inside an unassuming building on Excelsior Boulevard in St. Louis Park sit stacks of Oriental rugs in the most stunning of shades and patterns, creating a warmth that you want to replicate in your own home.

Tonight, the shop will kick off its showing of the Zarnegin Collection, an assemblage of rugs collected by Nasser Zarnegin, a former collector and wholesaler of tribal rugs. Zarnegin brought pieces from Persia, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Russia to Europe in the mid-20th century before heading to New York to introduce the United States to the bright rugs. As a result of his recent passing, the collection will be sold worldwide, but first, the Navab Brothers have brought a sampling to the Twin Cities for viewing.

Tonight, a special Tribal tent has been set up at the shop and filled with rugs and artifacts—don’t miss the chance to meet Mrs. Zarnegin, chat about the pieces, and view the bright, worldly collection.
