They’re back—four of the top vocalists in the Twin Cities (Dennis Spears, Julius C. Holiday dreams

WHAT: Loyce Houlton’s Nutcracker Fantasy
WHERE: Cowles Center, Minneapolis
WHEN: 7 p.m.
Tickets are selling fast for this annual tradition, the most florid Nutcracker production in town for decades now. It’s worth trying to get them, with the show now in a new venue. Learn more at thecowlescenter.org

Where to take the relatives

WHAT: Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters
WHERE: Science Museum of Minnesota
WHEN: 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The exhibit title is not a comment on your family. Open well into the afternoon, the museum simply offers plenty for visiting relatives to take in before heading home to dinner and presents. The temporary exhibit explores the dangerous and beautiful power of natural forces—tornados, volcanos, etc. Learn more at smm.org

Saturday, December 24

Until midnight

WHAT: Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella
WHERE: Ordway Center, St. Paul
WHEN: 1 p.m.
While not a holiday show per se, it has a similar effect. Take the kids to this lush production, full of creative—dare we say magical—special effects. Then wait for midnight. They’ll fill in the rest. Read our review of Cinderella here, and learn more at ordway.org

Sunday, December 25

Light touch

Every night through January 1, the park welcomes you to a lights display—and certainly nothing Chevy Chase would recognize. More than 50 giant displays, some of them animated, depicting a castle complete with princess, dragon, etc., fill the park. There’s a $10 per vehicle charge that goes to charity.
