Brooklyn-based home furnishings retailer West Elm was founded on its commitment to supporting handicrafts and fair trade with producers around the globe. Its recently launched West Elm Local division is now expanding that effort stateside. The program highlights local makers in all of its retail stores across the U.S., giving emerging brands a platform to build a broader client base.
This year, the retailer has introduced the concept in Minnesota at its storefront at the Shops at Centennial Lakes in Edina with a collection of highly giftable goods by Minnesota makers. This month’s offerings include wood-script signs from Oh Dier; gold-foil prints and totes from Live & Love MN; Minnesota-state wood wall art by Sam Bee Designs; hand-etched Mason jars by Taylor Cathleen; and Pop Art-inspired, animal-themed prints by Mod Dog. Makers and product assortments will rotate seasonally, accompanied by monthly in-store launch events.
