After Assad: What’s Next for Syria?

March 4 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free – $10

After 54 years in power, the Assad family in Syria was overthrown in December by rebel forces. This regime was widely regarded as one of the most repressive dictatorships in recent history. An uneasy coalition has emerged among the rebel forces with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham leading the transition. With widespread sanctions still in effect and ongoing terrorism designations, Syria’s new leadership has limited international legitimacy. What conditions must be met for Syria to succeed and what geopolitical factors might hinder them?

Join Global Minnesota for a timely webinar featuring Mona Yacoubian, Vice President of the Middle East and North Africa Center at the United States Institute of Peace. She will discuss the current situation in the region and prospects for Syria’s future.
