Bap and Chicken Birthday Bash
July 29 @ 11:00 am - 8:00 pmFree
John Gleason opened Bap and Chicken on July 29th, 2019, with a vision to bridge Korean and American cultures through food. John loves a party, and despite the barriers to gathering together that the pandemic brought, he felt it was important to mark the popular spot’s first birthday in 2020. Now, after having weathered the challenges of the past year, John and his team are extra ready to celebrate Bap’s second birthday with a “Birthday Bash,” and plans to host festivities every July 29th going forward. “Birthdays are a big deal, and this is an extra special one, it says ‘we made it!’,” says Gleason, adding, Popular menu items include tempura-dipped “KFC“ (Korean-Fried Chicken), Bibimbap, and many tasty bar snacks such as Crispy Rice Tots and house-made Kimchi.
Beginning July 1st, visitors to Bap and Chicken can enter a drawing for free chicken for a year. On the actual birthday, July 29th, there will be dining specials and giveaways throughout the day. From 5 pm to 8 pm, there will be complimentary cake, entertainment, plus Mimosas and sparkling teas from Jinx Tea, another local business that opened in 2019. The evening will wrap up with the grand prize “Chicken for a Year” drawing on-site, broadcast via Instagram Live at @bapandchicken.
A hospitality veteran of 20 years before taking the leap of opening his own spot, John is upbeat: “We are feeling the thrill of momentum again,” says Gleason. “We’re so grateful to the customers who were loyal these past two years, and we are so excited to begin introducing ourselves to new people as well, so they can experience what we are doing here. My life story really influences the food we serve — many call it a truly unique combination of American and Korean cuisine,“ John adds, ”I just say ‘It’s the food of who I am.”
