Brian Severns finds inspiration in the awkward, the inconsistent, and the dissonant—perspectives that appear incorrect, organic matter overtaking architectural structures, or obstructions blocking a path. He appreciates the unpredictable geometry of kilims, mud cloths, and Native American weaving. Navajo rugs, in particular, seem to constantly subvert their own rules of design through both planning and human error.
