A Solo Art Exhibition
Title: CONTAIN ME

This exhibition pays tribute to two exceptional women who left permanent marks on the world: Khadijah and Hafsah. Prophet Muhammad’s first wife, Khadijah, believed in him and pledged her unwavering support. She played a pivotal role in Islam’s triumph and endurance.
She dedicated her life, power, and money to supporting the nascent religion. Mohammed, and indeed all Muslims, are forever indebted to her.

After Khadijah’s death, the Prophet took many wives; one was Hafsah, a bright and literate young woman. She undertook the monumental responsibility of preserving the Qur’an until early khalifs could transcribe it. This contribution establishes her as a crucial figure in disseminating Islamic teachings.

Al-Mansour imagined their likes and painted them embodying their roles in larger-than-life portraits because they are larger-than-life figures. Around them, she screen-printed rolls of canvas with Islamic geometric patterns that employ their contours.
In addition, two Animation shorts related to these two women will be on display.

Artist Bio

Hend Al-Mansour draws inspiration from Islamic art and Arabic aesthetics. Her Media include installations, screen-printing, murals, and animation. Gender discrimination and social injustice shape her themes of highlighting women’s power and their equal participation in cultural production.

Al-Mansour holds a Master of Fine Arts and a Master of Art History from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and the University of St. Thomas, respectively. She received multiple MRAC and MSAB grants and the McKnight and Jerome Fellowships. She is a member of the Rosalux Gallery, the Interfaith Artists Circle in the Twin Cities, and the national collective The Habibtis.
