Ellie Palmer & Sam Tschida in conversation

August 7 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Four Weekends and a Funeral begins as Alison arrives at her ex-boyfriend Sam’s funeral, only to find that no one knows he dumped her. Faced with the awkward prospect of breaking more bad news to Sam’s grieving family, she agrees to play the role of the grieving girlfriend and pack up Sam’s apartment with his prickly best friend, Adam Berg. After all, it’ll only take four weekends . . .
But Adam doesn’t want Alison anywhere near him. Forced to spend long hours with the grump, and his monosyllabic demeanor, Alison decides she must put her people-pleasing abilities to the test. She will make him like her. And after awkward family affairs and packing up dilemmas, the two form a tenuous friendship . . . if “friendship” means incredible chemistry and tension between them. Can Alison come clean and finally embrace the life and love she’s always wanted? Or will her inadvertent lie get in the way of her new, unexpected romance?
Witty and unforgettable, Four Weekends and a Funeral is a masterful debut that stands at once as a poignant love letter to female friendship, to the Midwest, and to those who help us find humor and hope amidst heartache.
Ellie Palmer is a lifelong lover of love stories, a carrier of the BRCA1 mutation, and a prototypical Midwesterner who routinely apologizes to inanimate objects when she bumps into them. When she’s not writing romantic comedies featuring delightfully messy characters, she’s at home in Minnesota, eating breakfast food, watching too much reality television, and triple texting her husband about their son.

Recently divorced Gabby Greene spends most of her days listening to self-help books while wrangling her loving yet erratic kids. During a decade of marriage, Gabby shoved aside her own career and ambitions to make room for mountains of laundry, running errands, and investigating the case of the missing socks. Her number one suspect: their Bichon Frise, Mr. Bubbles.
All that changes when a secret government agency comes knocking on Gabby’s door, asking her to go undercover. At first, she thinks some reality show is pranking her, but apparently, she bears a striking resemblance to an agent recently murdered, and… well, desperate missions call for desperate measures. Soon Gabby is juggling motherhood and a crash course in Spying 101, led by a handsome James Bond-type who has secrets of his own.
As Gabby embarks on a dangerous mission involving money laundering, a Russian oligarch, and an unfortunate incident with a prosthetic nose, she begins to realize that she is far from the invisible housewife she once believed herself to be, and that maybe, just maybe, she might be capable of saving the day.
When not writing romcom/mystery mashups, author Sam Tschida (pronounced cheetah) is probably flipping channels between Dateline and the latest reality dating show. She braves the Minnesota winter with her four resigned children, two snuggly dogs, and one sizzling-hot husband. She doesn’t drink alcohol, never touches caffeine, and is always on time. Just kidding—did you read how many kids she has?
