*The CANTUS performance will be on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The series, created in 2018, is one of many ways that Lakewood is reimagining the role of a cemetery in modern life. Designed to welcome the community to experience Lakewood in a new way, it features an eclectic range of local musicians and shines a spotlight on Lakewood’s stunning historic chapel. The Lakewood Memorial Chapel, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1910 and designed by renowned architect Harry Wild Jones. It offers an intimate setting for up to 150 guests, along with an awe-inspiring interior of more than ten million mosaic tiles. These tiles, called tesserae, were crafted by European artisans who came to Lakewood directly from completing a project in the Vatican.
Lakewood’s grounds and community events are open to the public.
