Malamanya

October 14 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Like the Mississippi river’s constant flow to the Gulf, the trade winds bring healing to the Twin Cities of Minnesota through Caribbean culture.
Malamanya frontwoman, Zusel Maria Balbin-Izquierdo arrived in Minnesota in search of opportunity. Her effort was not specifically for music, but for a safe place where her family could thrive. From Havana, Cuba to Mexico and Miami she finally found her home in Minneapolis,
Soon after landing in Minneapolis, Zusel connected with Twin Cities based salsa orchestra Malamanya. They’re now releasing new original music with Zusel leading the band alongside St. Paul born Luis Alvaro Ortega Castrellon.
The song ‘La Tormenta’ is a high energy dance song with percussion breaks, horn hits, and Zusel’s powerful voice bringing to light the reality that when times feel calm in our lives, a storm of difficulty lies beyond the horizon.
In contrast, their follow up single ‘Frío’, is an anthem sung by Luis that highlights the cool winter climate of Minnesota and the need to stay warm by dancing.
For years, Malamanya has been playing for packed crowds at home and abroad. They have united people from across the cultural spectrum to come together and dance regardless of background or climate. Through these new original songs, Malamanya will reach a larger audience and spread their love and contagious energy worldwide.
