On November 8th, Prairie Fire Choir (PFC) returns to The Cedar Cultural Center with “Great Big Hill of Hope,” their final concert of the year. For this special event, the choir will be joined by Barbara Cohen & Little Lizard, featuring singer-songwriter (and Minneapolis native) Barbara Cohen backed by cellist Jacqueline Ultan, guitarist Jeremy Ylivisaker, and percussionist Marc Anderson. Cohen recently relocated back to Minnesota and reunited with her Little Lizard bandmates after a decades-long sojourn composing, teaching, and performing in Los Angeles.

At the Cedar, Prairie Fire Choir will perform their signature mix of pop, rock, R&B, and indie tunes, plus several new arrangements. Described by The Current 89.3 as “operating in the long and proud American tradition of community choirs, but reinventing it with original arrangements of contemporary songs,” their repertoire includes songs by a diverse group of artists — from Tom Waits, Queen, and Metallica, to Billie Eilish, Rihanna, and Chappell Roan — all arranged by members of the 60+ person choir. Known for their tight harmonies and lively stage presence, Prairie Fire Choir effortlessly “balances cool, casual fun with deep emotional resonance,” according to Chris Riemenschneider, music critic for the Minnesota Star Tribune.

“Great Big Hill of Hope” marks the culmination of another successful season where PFC delighted audiences around the state at St. Paul Pride, the Minnesota State Fair, Franconia Sculpture Park, the Amsterdam Bar and Hall, and the Parkway Theater as well as other venues. A portion of the concert’s proceeds will support RECLAIM!, the nonprofit partner selected by this year’s choir membership.
