Ukraine: War and Resistance
March 23 - May 16

View an exhibit of 41 haunting images of the war in Ukraine photographed by seven Fulbright Scholars. With the beginning of Russia’s war against Ukraine, a cohort of Fulbright photographers, both Ukrainian and American, found themselves at the epicenter of momentous events, equipped with their ultimate weapon, their cameras. They managed to capture the tragic and heroic, devastating and hopeful moments of the present life in Ukraine. Most of the photographs were taken in the past 12 months, but some date back as far as 2014, when Russia first invaded Ukraine and annexed its Crimean Peninsula. This will be the North American premiere of these large-scale photographs (25-by-20 inches), first exhibited last fall in Vinnytsia, a central Ukraine city under Russian missile attacks for the past year. The exhibit of framed photographs will be located in the museum’s central Mill Commons, and is free and open to the public during regular museum hours March 23 – May 14, 2023.
The exhibit is sponsored by Fulbright Ukraine and the Fulbright Association Minnesota Chapter, which serves the state through 189 U.S. Fulbright alumni and 70 Fulbright Scholars from around the world conducting graduate research and studies in Minnesota. Among them is Roman Tyshchenko, a Ukrainian Fulbright Scholar who secured permission to mount the exhibit in Minneapolis – with hopes it will travel to other locations in Minnesota and across the U.S. in coming months.
