Welcome Home Party

September 10 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Local Orgs Partner to Host a Celebration + Provide Connections to Resources to Formerly-Incarcerated Community Members and Their Families

A party and fair-chances hiring event for formerly-incarcerated community members, their friends, and their families. The Welcome Home Party is an opportunity to celebrate our shared humanity and connect with people coming back into the community. This free event is hosted by Art from the Inside, Ujamaa Place, Repowered (formerly Tech Dump), and Ramsey County. The Fair Chance Hiring Job Fair is sponsored by Ramsey County Workforce Innovation Board.

There will be free food, music, entertainment for kids (face-painting, games, and more!), and resources and Fair Chance employers to make it easier to navigate all of the re-entry resources in our community.

The event is open to the public, specifically geared towards those returning to our community after incarceration and their friends and family members, families of those incarcerated, and organizations supporting returning citizens. More information on event co-hosts is below.

No cost for entry, but RSVP is requested for planning purposes: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/welcome-home-party-tickets-400886310747

Art from the Inside was founded by Antonio Espinosa as a way to foster transformation, healing, and forgiveness after his friend Joseph Gomm, a corrections officer at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Stillwater, was killed by an inmate. The tragic death had a deep impact on both staff and inmates. Inspired to create change, Antonio began working with the administration and the broader community to bring educational and cultural events inside the walls, which proved to be successful for both officers and the incarcerated. Next, Antonio started looking at other ways to help bring the community together, and Art from the Inside (AFTI) was born. Art from the Inside allows incarcerated artists to express themselves —giving them a visual voice. AFTI will be exhibiting its art in the community with the hope of inspiring community dialogue about the complexities of our criminal justice system.
