Winter Lecture Series: North of Nowhere

January 18, 2025 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Regular Site Admission

Join Minnesota storyteller Terry O’Brien for tales drawn from traditional northern folklife and lore, plus actual, historical winter adventures of trappers, travelers, and winterers in the far north. There is deep, penetrating cold in these stories and peril, yet encoded within them are survival strategies for coping with cold, blizzards, and deprivation. Be transported to a place north of nowhere and return to a cozy circle where you can, if you wish, share your own stories of snow and ice.

Terry O’Brien has lived in northern Minnesota for over fifty years. She’s exercised her communication skills as a teacher, radio producer and programmer, bookseller, writer, and storyteller. Her best tip for surviving Minnesota winters? Surround yourself with good books and keep the hot chocolate coming!
