Founded in 1973 with the slogan “where the grapes can suffer,” this Hastings winery aspires to French quality with Minnesota-grown grapes. Wines include Voyageur, Ratafia and Seyval Blanc. Tastings $10.
A household name in the Minnesota wine world, Alexis Bailly pioneered winemaking by planting the state’s first vineyard in 1973. This Hastings winery just 30 minutes southeast of the Twin Cities produces award-winning wines, including Voyageur, a red blend that includes Frontenac grapes developed at the University of Minnesota. For $10 sample all their reds and whites and keep your wine glass as a souvenir—otherwise sample pours at more-than-reasonable rates of $2, $3 and $5. The winery is open May through Thanksgiving on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as in April and December on Fridays and Saturdays. Pack a picnic and tour the vineyard and sculpture park, or explore the biking trails that surround the property.
