This restored stone fortress opens its gates to welcome you to frontier life. Shoulder a musket, mend clothes, smell the stew, scrape a hide or sing along with the soldiers. The fort’s costumed guides demonstrate crafts, present historical skits and practice military drill and weapons firings. Admission: $12 adults, $10 seniors, college students and active military, $6 children (6-17), ages 5 and younger and Minnesota Historical Society members free.

    Built in the early 1820s, Historic Fort Snelling is a great place to learn aboutmilitary history from pre-Civil War through World War II, as well as fur trade history, slavery in Minnesota, the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862and much more. You can shoulder a musket, mend clothes, smell the stew or scrape a hide. Plus, actors in period costumes bring this immersive experience to life. Its location at the junction of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers has also been significant for centuries to many American Indian communities.
