Harris, Rachel A.

Rachel Harris, MD, is a board-certified Physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Premier Women’s Health of MN — Southdale OBGYN. The practice has two locations with offices in Edina and Burnsville, Minnesota.

Dr. Harris obtained her undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, followed by her Doctor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She completed residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

For Dr. Harris, being an OBGYN is a natural fit. Her first medical school rotation was surgery. She didn’t think she’d like surgery but enjoyed it and OBGYN was even better because she loves working in a clinic and getting to know patients personally. She says, “it’s the perfect blend of primary care and surgery.”

Her decision to become a physician came from her love of science and her aunt, Dr. Garnet Harris, a family practice physician whom she shadowed for a few weeks during college.
Dr. Harris describes herself as empathetic and energetic, driven, and down-to-earth. She is good at listening to what’s going on with her patients and respects that they have an integral role in their health care.

She believes in balancing life and being whole, so when she shows up at work, she can be there 100 percent. She feels so fortunate to have women come to her for their care. It is an honor, and she’s grateful that this is her job.

Dr. Harris likes to read, run, and bake. She is busy raising two kids with her husband, Steve. They love family trips, watching and playing sports, and relaxing with family movie nights.
