Minneapolis’ Boom Island Park, located on the Mississippi riverfront, is gaining notoriety and popularity. Some of the Twin Cities’ largest events are to be held at the Northeast spot this summer. The list includes Rock the Garden, The Current and Walker Art Center’s annual music festival, and Fourth of July Fireworks, which are to be preceded by the Minnesota Orchestra playing 1812 Overture.

Near the island is the ever-expanding food culture of Northeast. MNMO’s Rachel Hutton recommends Surdyk’s Deli for cheese and charcuterie, Brasa for takeout, Punch or Pizza Nea for portable pizzas, Masa for sushi and sidewalk seats, Aster Café for shade and sustenance, and Elsie’s for bad-weather bowling.
