Dahlia Finally Finds a Permanent Pastry Location

The popular pop-up bakery will share a Northeast Minneapolis space with MN Nice Cream starting in January

Is this the year the pop-ups finally grab a permanent place? Local bakery Dahlia has been popping up around the Twin Cities for three years, and it’s finally moving into a shared Northeast Minneapolis space with MN Nice Cream starting in January.

Dahlia announced it will serve pastries in the morning and early afternoon, and MN Nice Cream will take over in the afternoon/evening. Rent being what it is, having a shared space that’s active all day just makes sense.

Dahlia just won the Chef Jack Chili Bowl fundraiser for Saint Paul College this weekend, thanks to chef/owner Nat Moser. The ownership team includes pastry chef Alexandra Althoff and Sarah Julson. It’ll be more than pastries—maybe Moser will toss one of his killer chilis in the mix! They’ll have hot food items, a grab-and-go case, coffee and beverages, seasonal specials, and expanded bakery offerings. The bakery expects to be open four days a week, Thursday through Sunday.

In a statement, Julson said the pop-ups taught them what works, what people love, and what the community is seeking.  “After years of traveling all around the metro, it feels incredible to finally put down roots,” said Julson.

One more pop-up season in November, which is the same season it started in 2022. You know by now that I’m not a huge fan of restaurants asking people to chip in to fund their expansions—but I do like the idea of pre-buying stuff to get entrepreneurs cash now. Dahlia has launched “Pastry Punch Cards,” available now at eatatdahlia.com/support; $50 gets you five pastries, $100 gets you 12, and you redeem one per week once the bakery opens.

“This next chapter is about growth—for our menu, our team, and our dream,” adds Julson. “We’’e so grateful to everyone who’s supported Dahlia over the years. You’ve made this possible.”
