Do you love desserts? Of course you do. Do you love cocktails? Of course you do. Do you love helping the hungry and the homeless? Of course you do.
I have two must-do events in the coming weeks. One is tonight—and there are still tickets available.
Michelle Gayer from The Salty Tart is hosting a fundraiser for Share Our Strength tonight called the Cakewalk.
It’s from 8-11 p.m. tonight, and my wife and I will be there, although you shouldn’t let that deter you from coming. All the ticket proceeds go to Share Our Strength, a great organization that works to end childhood hunger in the Twin Cities and the nation by 2015.
The desserts are going to be killer. Salty Tart, La Belle Vie, Heidi’s, Sun Street Breads, Sea Change, and Parasole are among the restaurants taking part. Chef Shack, Sheela Namakkal, Bogart Loves Bakery, Wuollet, Zoe Francois, Sweets Bakeshop, Cupcake, PangCakes, Cocoa & Fig—does it get better than this? No way.
It’s at the Fine Line, tickets are $60, buy them now. There’s dessert from 8-9:30 p.m, a raffle with prizes at 9:30, then dancing and drinks until 11. Should be awesome.
And what are you doing Sunday, March 11th? Northstar Bartender’s Guild, the group of awesome, fun, smart, goofy-looking bartenders in the Twin Cities, is doing a second event for charity. The first was a blast—I had a great time drinking some of the creative, delicious cocktails from guys like Jesse Held, Johnny Michaels, Nick Kosevich, Troy Tindal, and on and on.
The Imbibes of March is a fundraiser for one of my favorite local charities, People Serving People, the homeless shelter in downtown Minneapolis that serves hundreds of families and children every night. $50 per person for this one gets you eight different cocktail samples, light appetizers, a raffle, and live music.
It’s at the XYandZ Gallery in South Minneapolis. Buy your tickets at vitalculture.com
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Our local food and drink scene does more for charity than most of us will ever realize. They make our community better. So let’s get out there and support!
