Dinner and a Movie: Recommended Restaurants Near Popular Twin Cities Theaters

So maybe you didn’t get invited to the Oscars, or you just feel like keeping it low-key this weekend by catching a movie and grabbing a bite to eat beforehand. Whatever the case, Rachel and John are rolling out the red carpet with their picks for restaurants close to some of their favorite Twin Cities movie theaters on this week’s episode of Moveable Feast.

If your movie of choice is playing at either the Uptown Theater or Landmark Lagoon, consider making a stop at Libertine. The fun-loving, affordable steakhouse opened by Tim McKee of La Belle Vie earned a spot on Minnesota Monthly’s Best New Restaurants list for 2014.

For dining destinations near the Landmark Edina Theater, the options are as plentiful as Meryl Streep’s Oscar nominations. Take your pick from gourmet burgers from Red Cow, wood-fired pizza from Mozza Mia, Italian from D’Amico and Sons, and great Vietnamese from Rice Paper. Just a few blocks down from St. Paul’s Grandview Theater is Shish, a casual Mediterranean café popular with Macalester students.

If the high price of movie tickets has you down, visit a discount theater like Mann’s Hopkins Cinema. Be sure to stop at Aji before or after the show for great happy hour prices and an endless sushi buffet on Sunday. Rachel recommends pairing gyoza and sushi with their sparkling blueberry sake.

If you’re headed to the mod, 50s themed Riverview in Minneapolis, swing by the Riverview Wine Bar for a great menu of shareable snacks like cheese plates, charcuterie and flatbreads that all pair well with wine.
