Fashion and Food at the Charlies

Style meets substance at this weekend’s awards show

The fashion design students at the Art Institutes International will show off their skills at the afterparty for this weekend’s Charlie Awards, which celebrate the Tiwn Cities food community. And they’re doing it with definite foodie flair.

It sounds like a challenge straight out of Project Runway—students use edible materials to craft cocktail dresses with flirty coffee-filter skirts and tops with chevron stripes made of corn.

“Students are creating fashion fantasy with edible interpretations of garments for the Charlie Awards,” says AII professor Natalie Asmus. “They’ll be featuring designs made of Fruit Roll-Ups, candy, Twizzlers, wine corks, coffee, seeds, grains, and beans—it’s so much fun!”

See some of last year’s outfits below as a fun preview for what’s to come. Head to the Charlies website for tickets to the show, afterparty, and VIP dinner to check out this year’s designs and taste some fantastic food.
