Foraging for Minnesota's Wild Foods

The hunt for mushrooms is on. And since it’s morel season, MnMo editor Rachel Hutton and MPR’s John Birge talk mushrooms, and other uncultivated plants that might even be in your backyard.

Did you know that Minnesota is an especially good state for foraging wild mushrooms? This month, MnMo features an amateur foodie’s quest to learn how to forage mushrooms and decipher the edible from the poisonous.

Rachel’s interest in foraging began a couple years ago when Teresa Marrone, a local author and forager nicknamed “Julia Child of the wild,” introduced her to uncultivated foods you can cook.

If foraging isn’t your thing, Rachel suggests tasting the already-foraged wild mushrooms at local restaurants such as Saffron, Icehouse, and Cosmos.
