Summer is so near, you can almost smell the charcoal heating up.
Barbecue, brisket, burgers—everything tastes better on the grill, and we’re here to kick off the season with Minnesota Monthly’s first annual GrillFest.
It’s exactly as it sounds: a festival about grilling, and all things related to summer entertaining.
But this is serious business: Learn tips and tricks from some of the best (like Dr. BBQ Ray Lampe, and “Grillologists” Mad Dog and Merrill) via cooking demonstrations; watch six chefs face off in the GrillFest Pork Competition; collect recipes and purchase spices, rubs, and grilling gadgets to cook at home; and sample from numerous wine, beer, and a steadily growing list of other vendors.
And you know those food trucks you’re always hearing about or trying to track down? A whole row will be pulling up to the edge of the festival, to sell smaller portions of their street fare.
Of course there will also be grills. Lots of grills (to peruse and potentially purchase!).
The backdrop to this outdoor festival will be some great local live music.
GrillFest runs May 19 and 20 from 1-5 p.m. each day. The stages and tents will be set up in downtown Minneapolis, taking up an entire city block, at 5th Avenue South and 6th Street South.
Tickets are $30 in advance online, and $35 at the door. More details can be found at grillfestival.com.
Note: This is a 21+ event. Rain or shine!
