As Minnesotan pie-lovers say goodbye to Grand Marais’ The Pie Place Café, which is closing after nearly 20 years in business, there are many other local places to satisfy one’s sweet tooth. On the North Shore, Rustic Inn in Castle Danger and New Scenic Café near Two Harbors are alternatives to the popular Betty’s Pies. South of the North Shore, great pie stops include Aroma Pie Shop near Lanesboro and Smiling Pelican Bakeshop in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin. The state’s biggest pie fans should head to Braham, about an hour north of the Twin Cities, for its annual Pie Day festival, filled with many pie-themed activities.
