Savvy Mom: Fat Nat's has One of the Best Brekkies in Town

My family loves breakfast. We love it so much we sometimes have it more than twice a day. We must be part hobbit—second breakfast is part of who we are. First breakfast usually isn’t a big deal. The kids have cereal and milk. My husband and I have juice and coffee, to which I add a baked good of some sort. It’s time for second brekkie when the blood-sugar sating effects of first brekkie have worn off. Then it’s time to get serious. For serious second breakfasts, one of our favorite places is Fat Nat’s.

I believe there are four major breakfast food groups: eggs, meat, potatoes, and toast. What endears Fat Nat’s to me is that they do these four groups AND top them with hollandaise sauce. We’ve visited many times, and so far, I’m never NOT in the mood for a benedict. Perhaps I just haven’t tried hard enough to test that limit. My boys haven’t yet discovered the addictive nature of benedicts, so all they have to do is figure out whether they want toast or pancakes, bacon or sausage with their eggs.

In this endless winter (we’re more than halfway through, right? RIGHT??!?), the ability to pick a place to eat that I don’t have to cajole my kids into is a relief. When I say we’re going to Fat Nat’s, the boys literally wave their hands in the air and yell “Yay!” The service is fast, friendly, and attentive. In short order I know I’m going to be wrapping my hands around a warm mug of black coffee, with excellent eggs, hollandaise, and hashbrowns on the way. A little while after that, we’ll leave full and happy. It’s nice to have a sure thing, and Fat Nat’s for breakfast, brunch or lunch, is one of ours.
