As Jason Ross reported last month, the long-awaited Minneapolis location of Izzy’s Ice Cream is now open! It’s a slightly smaller, but airy retail space, with a satisfying range of flavors* and plenty of seats indoor and out. It’s by Gold Medal park, so you can walk off your calories while you’re enjoying them. Just a little farther on is the river for a stunning view.
I’m thrilled because their new location is literally right up the street from one of our regular haunts, Big Brain Comics. For those not familiar with geek culture, new comics arrive weekly on Wednesdays. I take my two boys on Wednesday, give them their allowance, and let them choose what to get. Big Brain has a wide selection of comics, books, and graphic novels for kids, plus plenty of stuff for us adults as well. My boys are big fans of Sonic the Hedgehog comics and books by Sarah Varon, while I like getting my monthly fix of titles like Saga and Hawkeye.
Now that Izzy’s is just a few blocks away from Big Brain, I’m wondering about making it part of our weekly ritual. That might be a dangerous, though delicious, precedent to set.

*I got Lemon Custard with an Izzy scoop of Blackberry Creme Fraiche. My boys got Cotton Candy with an Izzy of Green Apple, and Root Beer Ice with an Izzy of Bubble Gum. I find their combination choices, well, questionable at best, but at Izzy’s, there is something to please all palates!
