Johnstock , the annual festival of arts and fun from the Johnson Street Merchants in Northeast kicks off at dusk on Friday, May 30 with an outdoor showing of Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be 40 arts and craft vendors, kid activities, a magic show, tours of the Hollywood starting at noon, newly designed Johnstock T-Shirts, and a raffle.
Saturday at 8 a.m. is the Foodie Four Mile, a fun run/walk through Northeast to celebrate opening day for the Northeast Farmers Market. It’s also a fundraiser for the farmers market and the Emergency Food Shelf Network. You can register in advance to save ten dollars or sign up the morning of the event. Post-race drink and snacks will be from Equal Exchange, Eastside Food Co-op, Chowgirls Catering, and Great Harvest Breads. New this year, Emergency Foodshelf Network will bring snacks showing the high quality, nutritious food it provides at their foodshelf. Swag from the race includes oven mitts and $5 in market bucks to use at the Northeast Farmers Market, which is just a few blocks away in the parking lot of St Boniface Church on the corner of University Ave and 7th Ave NE. From 9 a.m.-1 p.m. they’ll have live music, produce, and vendors, including The Moral Omnivore, Natedogs, and SiP Coffeebar.
Saturday is also the first Open Streets Minneapolis event of the year, the North Minneapolis Greenway Experience. Stroll or bike the route of the proposed North Minneapolis Greenway on North Girard/Humboldt Avenues from West Broadway Avenue to North 42nd Avenue. There will be an urban farm market with live music, food, and kids activities.
I don’t know of any events on Sunday. If you do, please don’t tell me. After such a whirlwind Friday and Saturday, I plan to spend Sunday collapsed on my couch.
