Seven Sundays Celebrates a Nationwide Launch

Minneapolis muesli company is changing mornings in America.

The company may be about making every day feel like Sunday morning, but last Monday was the real cause for celebration at Minneapolis-based muesli company Seven Sundays. Less than four years since the company’s founding it launched nationwide at Target with flavors including a new variety: Blueberry Chia Buckwheat. Not only is their flavor gluten-free, the only nut it contains is coconut, increasing its allergen-friendly appeal.

“We’ll never be a gluten-free brand because we love our barley and rye,” says Hannah Barnstable, co-founder of Seven Sundays, “but we still wanted to provide a gluten-free option.”

On their honeymoon in New Zealand, Hannah and new husband Brady discovered muesli, a breakfast staple in many countries outside the U.S. Made from a mixture of oats, dried fruit, nuts, and seeds, muesli is an all-natural breakfast cereal packed with fiber and protein. The couple was determined to change the way Americans eat breakfast, and with a mission to bring muesli to Minnesota, began experimenting with flavors in 2011.

“Breakfast is the most important meal, and we wanted to steer away from the sugary breakfast foods that have become so popular,” says Hannah.

Versatility is key when it comes to muesli’s appeal—it can be eaten cold like cereal, hot like oatmeal, or soaked in milk or yogurt, similar to a parfait.

My favorite way to eat the new Blueberry Chia Buckwheat muesli is with almond milk—it complements the sweetness of the blueberries and honey and really accentuates the rich coconut. Who knew eating well could be so sweet?
