Three Things to Eat This Week: June 27-July 4

I don’t know whether I’m coming or going this week. I just got back from an epic eat-fest in New York City to plunk down and immediately hit the town with my crew of best girlfriends. One of us is launching from the fold and moving to New Orleans. (Seriously? Who moves to Louisiana in the summer? It might be the negronis. Still, I am going to miss her with all of my heart.) So for this week, at the edge of the holiday weekend, I’m hitting my beloved Minneapolis hard for the best times one can cram into these deliciously short summer nights.

Kitchen in the Market at Midtown Global Market
Tonight we kick off the first of the Minnesota Monthly sponsored cooking classes: Signature Series with Christina Nguyen of Hola Arepa. The class is sold out, but, we do have another one coming up in September (featuring those ridiculously good Hi Tops from Hi-Lo Diner.) In addition to hosting the best cooking classes in town, Kitchen in the Market has a small retail outlet that sells locally made bitters, addictive sweet-salty chocolate chip shortbread cookies, and goodies from vendors who use the kitchen’s commercial cooking space. You never know what you’ll happen upon from the creamiest vegan soups imaginable to kumquat syrup for your cocktails. It’s so much fun to explore (and just happens to be where I met my friend Tracy and I immediately made some inappropriate cleavage jokes and a life-long friendship was born.) kitchen-in-the-market.mybigcommerce.com

Porchetta at Terzo
It’s the season lunch outside at Terzo, the Broder’s wine bar located near their other restaurants in South Minneapolis. The highly seasoned, delightfully juicy meat of the porchetta is so gorgeously prepared at the walk up window café in the back. I’ve got a lovely memory of sitting at the bar here with my girlfriends and I’ll be toasting them with pork next time I’m in. terzompls.com

Bubbly at St. Genevieve
No matter the weather or reason, there’s a warm welcome and an affordable bottle of something special inside this South Minneapolis neighborhood haunt. The food is stunning, beautiful, and glorious and it gets even better when paired with the myriad of bubbles to choose from. I always defer to the staff, letting them know the occasion or which food bite I’d like to pair my drink with. They get it right every time. I wonder what goes with I-love-you-so-much-I’m-going-to-miss-you-like-Sterling-misses-water-and-I’m-so-happy-for-you tears? I bet they have the perfect bottle. facebook.com/stgenevieve
