Everyone goes nuts for Mother’s Day brunch, but Dad wants to be taken out too! At least this dad does! Will someone please take me out?

  • Monte Carlo: Relationships with dads are all about tradition, and the Monte Carlo has been there since 1906. Order the incredible dry-rubbed chicken wings, get a Monte Manhattan or an Old Fashioned from the copper-topped bar, and share the story of how dad accidentally dropped his first-born. Twice.   • The Butcher & The Boar: Doesn’t this place just smell like dad? A hint of smoked wood, a touch of sweet bourbon, and a whole lot of meat. The pork chop is legendary, the sausages are decadent, but don’t overlook the beer garden for a casual afternoon talking about the Twins. (Downtown Minneapolis)

Joy’s Picks

All those hardworking dads out there deserve something better than a tie or an electric razor. These are the spots where I love to treat my guy, who’s the hardest-working dad outside of show business. 

  • The French Hen: This darling little St. Paul brunch spot turns out a killer biscuits and gravy (my husband’s fave); followed by a stroll through the neighborhood, it’s our idea of heaven. (Cathedral Hill)
     
  • Joan’s in the Park: This is another unassuming little neighborhood restaurant, but the steaks here are unbelievable. The menu serves classic fare fit for a modern palate. Plus, the patio is a secret haven in the city. (Shh! Don’t tell.) (Highland Park)
