The North Mankato Taylor Library presents its eighth annual Adult Spelling Bee, a fun event that helps grown-ups reanimate the competitive spirit and tongue-twisting words of nostalgic childhood bees. Hosted at Chankaska Creek Winery, the bee includes a complimentary drink ticket for each 21-and-up participant and the opportunity to sign up with a team of your own or compete with new friends.

What: Søndergård Conducts Sibelius

As part of its Nordic Soundscapes festival, the Minnesota Orchestra takes audiences on a journey to Finnish composer Jean Sibelius’ “Symphony No. 1,” plus Stenhammar’s “Excelsior!” and Abrahamsen’s “let me tell you.” Conductor Thomas Søndergård leads the ensemble alongside internationally known soprano Lauren Snouffer.

The University of Minnesota College of Science and Engineering presents a show that brings physics to life for audience members of all ages. Demonstrations include imploding barrels (to illustrate the concept of atmospheric pressure), physicists dropping from the sky, and music from Northrop’s historic pipe organ.
